Coach Enos Honored

The Oberlin Athletic Boosters Club is pleased to recognize and honor Coach Craig Enos for his 40 years of service and dedication to Oberlin and Lorain County wrestling programs.  Coach Enos arrived in Oberlin in 1978 and became an assistant coach at Oberlin High School for 5 years under the leadership of Tadaaki Hatta.  He then transitioned to be the head coach of Langston Middle school before finishing his last 30 years as the head coach at Oberlin High School. During his overall tenure, Coach Enos coached 16 State Qualifiers with 9 of them becoming State Placers.  This is quite a feat since Coach Enos never had the opportunity to command a full wrestling team. After retiring, he volunteered for a few years assisting in developing skills to new wrestlers.

In addition to his Head Coaching position,  Coach Enos was the director of both the Langston Middle School Tournament and Oberlin City’s Biddy Wrestling program for 20 years.  He was honored as the Lorain County Division III Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and served as Secretary of the Lorain County Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (LCWCOA)  for 15 years.  He was inducted into the LCWCOA Hall of Fame in 2011.

Under Coach Enos’s leadership some of his wrestlers/statisticians have gone on to have their own success in the wrestling community.  His son, Michael, wrestled for Oberlin and was the Oberlin Wrestling assistant coach for five years. His daughter, Mary, was a statistician and went on to be the head statistician for Baldwin Wallace running college tournaments.  The current coach, Coach Mason Bremke was also one of Coach Enos’ lifelong wrestlers. Coach Bremke began wrestling as a biddy wrestler and had a successful middle and high school career.  Coach Enos is fondly remembered for his positive attitude, his big smile and his camera.  Happiness is found on the mat.

Coach Enos would always greet his wrestlers before any competition with a handshake and his infamous quote, “It’s a great day to wrestle in Ohio.” Congratulations and thank you for your dedication and service to the wrestling program and athletes in Oberlin.
