The BackPack program, run by the Interact Club at Oberlin High School, recently received $3,700.00 in Temporary (COVID) Relief from the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.

According to Interact Club Advisor Ms. Sarah Colson, the funds will help the Interact Club continue with the BackPack program.

“We are greatly appreciative of the donated funds that will help the BackPack program to continue their mission of providing weekend food to students at Oberlin Elementary School who qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program,” Ms. Colson said.

The total amount of allocated funds was $3,700. The funds are awarded to qualified programs and were secured through funding from the Harvest for Hunger campaign and individual donations, Ms. Colson said.

Oberlin City School District Director of Student and Family Support Mr. Jay Nimene credits the BackPack Program with providing food security for students in need during the weekend.

“It is vital that we continue to support our families. I’d like to thank Ms. Colson for her leadership and organization of the Interact Club. I am grateful for her for willingness to continue the program after Ms. Donna Shurr retired,” Mr. Nimene said.
